About Us

Social Studies/Rockwood:

United States History!  We will be studying the time periods of early exploration all the way through the Civil War.  There will be times that we will pay particular attention to the government system, elections and Vermont state history.  As always, I encourage students to watch the news and become informed citizens which will allow us to have more in depth conversations.  Lastly, we will be showing our learning through a variety of projects and writing assignments.

Language Arts/Lisai:

Language Arts class is about fine tuning our communication abilities.  Solid communication skills are vital to leading a fulfilling life, no matter what you plan to do.  So we read to understand the world in which we live; we write to think about what's important, and we talk  to build verbal competence.  The 1:1 iPad initiative will allow us to take these skills outside the walls of our building and beyond.

Math/ Beaupre:

Math in the middle school brings together everything mathematical that you have studied up to this point and incorporates some mystery - variables. We will be using shapes, patterns, and data to solve problems and explore the world around us. This year, we are using digital math notebooks and are working our way toward a (somewhat) paperless classroom. Remember, the best way to keep math skills sharp is by using them. You can expect to have homework just about every day.

Science/Whitlock:

The science curriculum alternates from physical to life science from one year to the next.  During a physical science year, we study basic chemistry, introductory physics and some earth science.  During a life science year, we begin by looking at the basis of all living things: cells.  From there, we expand our understanding of the living world through studies of organisms and ecosystems.  Completing assignments and participation in class and in lab activities is crucial to success.  In any given year, plan to participate fully in class whether it be outside during a life science year or inside in the lab during a physical science year.  Together, the two years will provide a solid understanding of the world around us.
